Banjo wins 2011 Silicon Valley Ruby Innovator Award

fukuoka ruby nightIf you took a poll in Silicon Valley on what programming language companies were using, there would be an overwhelming consistent response: Ruby!  Banjo has been using Ruby in very interesting and complicated ways, and when we received an email notifying us we were selected as a finalist for the “2011 Silicon Valley Ruby Innovator Award”, we were elated!

Participating at the Fukuoka Ruby Night was a great honor for Banjo. We were able to present how Banjo is using social discovery, proximity and context to change the way people are using social media; and meet Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto, the mastermind behind Ruby. We were up against three other companies for the award, but it was Banjo that emerged victorious! The panel of judges included “Matz”, Tom Mornini from Engine Yard, and Hitoshi Kawanabe from SunBridge.

Damien Patton, Banjo Founder and CEO, added that some of our favorite things about Ruby include how dynamic the language is and the interactive community. “We were really excited to get Banjo in front of ‘Matz’ and have him judge our progress and the ways we used his programming language.”
