Banjo Intern – University Brand Ambassador UK

Are you independent and outgoing with a passion for new technologies? Banjo, the real time mobile discovery platform, is looking for a number of UK University Brand Ambassadors for the 2013 summer term.

Banjo is the fun way to explore what’s happening anywhere in the world right now. The company is based in Redwood City, California, and has received multiple awards and accolades, including the Silicon Valley Ruby Innovator Award 2012, Fast Company Most Innovative Companies 2013 and the top spot in The Sunday Times App List 2013. Banjo has twice been App of the Week on both iTunes and Google Play. Launched in June 2011, the app now has over 4 million users worldwide.

This is your chance to work with a break-through technology brand to create awareness and drive usage of the application on tablets and smartphones. We want you to be our eyes and ears on campus, managing a range of tasks, from building social media buzz through to running key events and promotions. Reporting to our community manager in Silicon Valley, you’ll receive weekly support and guidance from our whole team. This is an exciting opportunity for undergraduates who are keen to start gaining some marketing experience early.

Banjo is offering a series of 8 week, unpaid, remote internships focused on marketing and professional development. Our University Brand Ambassadors (UBAs) will act as ambassadors for Banjo on campus. There’ll be a team of 2 UBAs on each campus. You’ll gain valuable professional development skills through regular contact with our team and its partners. UBAs can receive credit for their work, make meaningful connections with like-minded students across the country, and learn entrepreneurial leadership skills. The programme runs in partnership with Entrepreneur First, the leading organization promoting entrepreneurship in universities in the UK.

Working closely with the community manager at Banjo HQ on a weekly basis, the tasks you will undertake will be as follows:

  • Week 1: Training in Banjo, how to find and share content through the app.
  • Week 2: Invite friends, connections to join Banjo, campus media to review app.
  • Week 3: Organise meetups, product demos with key campus influencers.
  • Week 4: Design and implement campus poster campaign.
  • Week 5: Develop and launch Banjo photo competition (several genres).
  • Week 6: Create then execute guerrilla campaigns on & offline.
  • Week 7: Ensure flow of new content through Banjo eg. sports, music, parties, both on and campus and elsewhere (‘here’ and ‘there’ in location technology).
